Everybody should know by now that staring at a screen all day is not healthy for one's eyes, especially with high brightness settings. There are a few simple ways to avoid ruining your eyesight and Eye Saver is here to remind you of them. It displays notifications when it's time to take a break or to look at something else, besides your monitor. Additionally, the software comes with adjustable filters, to make the screen more bearable.

Eye Saver works on Windows 7 and all later editions, up to Win 10. It can be installed in under a minute, even on slower machines, but it will have to restart your computer. The application doesn't require any special tools or drivers and it doesn't use a significant amount of memory or processing power.

When launched, Eye Saver automatically applies an orange filter on your screen, which makes it particularly comfortable during late hours. You can make adjustments on a tabbed user interface, which can be accessed through a system tray icon. The software lets you manually increase or decrease the screen's brightness and its color temperature, through simple sliders.

If you can't be bothered with manual adjustments, you can instantly apply one of several filters, which are pre-set for health, movie-watching and other activities. Another useful feature is the possibility of setting up automated rules, which disable the application or apply specific filters for user-selected applications.

Increasing the color temperature will give your screen an orange tint, which makes it easy to look at during late hours. Decreasing the temperature will give it a normal blue tint, which everybody is used to seeing during the day. Furthermore, increasing your screen's brightness, using its physical buttons, and controlling the brightness via Eye Saver's own controls is a good way to reduce flickering, which is a known cause of eye strain and headaches.

Besides making the screen more comfortable for the eyes, the software can also provide you with on-screen reminders to take a break. It can be set to display notifications for regular breaks, every few minutes, which can last a set amount of time. When it's time for a break, the software will display a message, with a countdown timer, as well as a few options, for skipping or postponing the break. The same kind of settings can be made for micro pauses. The principle is the same, but instead of taking breaks that last a few minutes, every hour or so, you will be reminded to look at something at least ten meters away, for at least twenty seconds.

Eye Saver requires only a small amount of resources, time and effort, in order to save something as valuable as your eyesight.

Pros

You can manually adjust a color filter or switch between presets. Eye Saver lets you set up automated rules for individual applications. Also, the software can remind you to take regular breaks and micro pauses.

Cons

There are no serious drawbacks to address.
